The first call
There was nothing special that day in August. I was just watching something on TV that I don’t even remember now. So I wasn’t expecting anything exciting when I picked up the telephone. It was my Biological sister that I hadn’t talked to in 16 years! That was surprising enough. but it got more so. She told me about my family now. How we have another sister and younger twin brothers. Oh and she was at Ma’s house. And I could talk to Ma if I wanted. Talk to her after 28 and a half years! (not that I was counting).UM Yeah!
The excitement triggered an asthma attack, so by the time she got to the phone my breathing was something like a freight train. But so was hers. And she was so quiet on the first call.We discussed a few basic questions and she hung up pretty fast. But she ended the call with “I love you.I always did.” I hung up in tears. I had waited 28 years to hear that.
Almost imediately, she sent me an email. All kinds of questions and information about my sister and brothers I had never met. My sister sent me an email too. I was causious answering my sister’s email, not really sure what to say. But with Ma I was more open. (After all, she was open to me about everything). In the email I told her a bit about my situation. After all, she directly asked me if I had any disabilities or if I was pregnant.

My situation at the time
At the time she called me, I was about to become homeless. My adoptive parents were moving into a senior living community and I was on a wait list for assisted living or halfway house. I was pregnant with twins.I was about to move into long term care at a phych hospital.

Other calls
Ma and I talked on the phone almost daily. We learned a lot about each other. She decided to help me with my living situation. It was her idea that I move up with her. My sister agreed to adopt the twins. More and more I called her when I had issues. And the reunion was something I could hardly wait for.

The meeting itself
October 19th I woke up extremely sick. But I got on the plane to head to OR. I was barely able to stand by the time I got off the plane. But when I saw two ladies practically doing jumping jacks I was able to speed up. I just knew that was Ma and my sister. The hug I got practically smothered me.But I knew It was Ma and I knew I was home.
We just picked up my luggage and headed for lunch, talking as if we always knew each other. Later that night we talked about why she had put me up for adoption. She wanted to try to make up for it. I told her that I never hated her (she thought I had) and that there was nothing to make up for. The responce was another hug that Just about broke my neck.
